to Pregnancy Termination
Medical abortion is an end to pregnancy caused by medicine than surgery. Two medications are used in the process: medical abortions: Mifepristone and Misoprostol. The first medication mifeprex is taken orally, and the next is consumed two or three days later. The procedure is valid for those under 10 weeks pregnant. What to Do Before Abortion?
Women are requested to only use the medicines if they are less than 12 weeks pregnant, and have an intra-uterine pregnancy. Know about the medicines well before, and if counseling is needed to manage emotions, then it can be availed.
- To confirm gestation age and womb pregnancy, an ultrasound scan is needed. The examination can be obtained from a clinic, and it is not necessary for the person to reveal it to the physician about her decision to end pregnancy.
- If the individual would like to have someone along during the process, she can arrange for the necessary. Also, she has to keep contact details for emergency care, though it is only very rare that clinical assistance is needed.
How effective is it?
Only one or two percent of females may experience incomplete pregnancy termination with the tablets. Other four to five percent of women may choose surgery as they face delayed reactions to the tablets, and may not wish to wait. Rarely, only one percent of the users may counter complications like serious bleeding or infection.
How are Abortion Pills Used?
There are several steps and experiences involved in pregnancy termination with medicines. The female takes Mifepristone abortion pill 200mg with water in home or clinic by mouth. This medications helps stop pregnancy by prohibiting progesterone hormone. It is rare that some bleeding may start after this tablet.
Within next two to three days, the woman will have to take 4 Misoprostol tablets (200mcg each) buccally. The medication empties ones uterus of fetal sections by starting strong or mild cramps. The bleeding occurring is like heavy period.
What to Do During or Later to Abortion?
The person can reduce pain by painkillers, hot water bottle or heating pad that eases cramps. She may also encounter fever; chills, tiredness, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, body ache etc. If the female soaks blood in more than two maxi-pads in an hour or two, and then she may have to consult clinician for advice.
- It is important that the individual returns to doctor for a follow-up in making sure the abortion was complete. The physician may conduct ultrasound or pelvic examination to know the results.
- Incase of rare event (incomplete abortion), then the doctor may prescribe additional Misoprostol abortion pills, or suggest surgical aspiration to end pregnancy.
